A groundbreaking exhibition, which will showcase the people behind football. the people on playing fields, on amateur pitches and in stadiums. Dreamers, players and supporters are all members of one huge family.

Father’s Day and Christmas party for children at Logomo

Logomo, the exhibition and event centre for the Turku Capital of Culture year, will remain open for some two months. During Logomo's last weeks the audience will be treated to a variety of events in addition to the exhibitions.

On Father’s Day, there will be special events and activities available for children and fathers.

Youth on the Move

Youth on the Move is a series of films dealing with immigranthood and growing up in a global world. The touching series includes awarded films from around the world. The films are shown on Sundays at 3 p.m. in the Studio of the Main Library.

25.9. Persepolis (96 min)

The awarded animated film Persepolis is based on the autobiographical comic albums by Marjane Satrapi. The film is a serious but humoristic description of Iran, of the effects of its religious revolution on the everyday life of a young woman, and of growing up as an immigrant teenage girl in a foreign country.

Polar Night Weekend

The Under the Reading Lamp project culminates in the two-day event at Turku Main Library from 11 to 12 Nov 2011. The Main Library will be open exceptionally till late in the night and this event sheds light on new dimensions of the library, a public facility open to all. The themes of the event are sleeping, sleeplessness and darkness.

Iljya’s Day

The Russian winner of the New Baltic Drama play writing competition is Iljya’s Day and it will be performed as a closet drama by the Swedish Riksteater. The play is written by a Russian under a pseudonym Semjon Kirov and it presents two very different men.

The Estonian winner of the New Baltic Drama play writing competition is Yhteys (Connection) the first play by Martin Algus and will be played by Turun Kaupunginteatteri (Turku City Theatre) and directed by Hilkka-Liisa Iivanainen.

Turku City Theatre produces a dramatic reading of the play These Little Town Blues are Melting Away by Pipsa Lonka. The Finnish readings are on Sopukka stage in Turku City Theatre on the 15th and 16th November at 7.

Kiasma: Isaac Julien / ARS11

The Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art will attend Turku 2011 with its own two-part production in cooperation with the Kiasma Foundation. The production showcases two centrepieces of the Kiasma media collection: Eija-Liisa Ahtila’s video installation WHERE IS WHERE? - MISSÄ ON MISSÄ?, 2008 and Isaac Julien’s video installation WESTERN UNION: Small Boats, 2007.

The power of fire theme day at Fire! Fire! exhibition, Logomo

On Saturday 14 May, the Fire! Fire! exhibition will celebrate The Power of Fire theme day! Join us to experience the spectacular fire show by Heureka’s Science Theatre.
