Antti Laitinen: Bark Boat
Antti Laitinen’s Bark boat draws inspiration from toy boats carved from tree bark by children. On the island of Vartiosaari, where large amounts of bark had fallen off pine trees, Laitinen began to wonder whether it would be possible to build an adult size bark boat. He constructed the boat during spring and summer 2010, and finally sailed it in August from the Porkkala peninsula to the coast of Estonia. The journey took 20 hours.
The Bark Boat is exhibited in Wäinö Aaltonen art museum.
