The Micropathy! festival will present microscopic puppet shows in public spaces around Turku throughout the Capital of Culture year. The programme includes 52 individual shows and over 365 presentations, including at least 30 premieres.
Together, the shows will offer an experience that lasts throughout the entire year. Festival shows will be performed on the streets and rooftops, in hospitals and homes for the elderly, in bars and at service stations. The performances will evolve as they are staged over the year to become an inseparable part of the Turku cityscape.
The festival will witness four performance series. The Microclimate series will present location-specific shows, the Micropolis series will present political micro theatre and the Micromance series will applaud the virtues of being tiny by showing glimpses of the epic and the grand on a tiny scale. The Microchip series will perform communal theatre and workshops to be organised in cooperation with interest groups around the city. The Microchip series invites everyone to participate and exhibit their own creations.
The project will conclude with a marathon of microscopic magnificence featuring a presentation of the majority of the shows from the entire festival.
Puppet shows have always been a part of the European city culture. The Micropathy! festival will revive this tradition by infusing life into the Turku Capital of Culture year. The events will be organised by the experimental puppet theatre group Sixfingers Theatre Association.
