Welcome to the renewed Turku2011.fi
Turku, the European Capital of Culture in 2011, is building a new online service. The Turku2011.fi portal will become an active community and social media service that will utilise online and mobile services to communicate the Capital of Culture events to the general public.
On June 16th, the beta version of the digital Capital of Culture was launched. The social and community features will be finalised step by step during the end of the year. The new website will provide a more in-depth take on the fascinating Capital of Culture programme. Ticket sales for the first events started on June 9th when the 2011 Programme was published.
Turku2011.fi brings the real-life and online worlds together
Turku2011.fi connects Facebook, Twitter and Youtube with the Turku website. The core of the online service is the Capital of Culture events. The events are presented to the visitors through social media, games or a mobile service. Visitors can comment on events, keep track with their own favourites and recommend events to their friends.
“We want to bring the real-life and online worlds together. Going to an exhibition or a performance is a social event, but the visitor loses the social connection after the event. We want to enable the visitor to continue the cultural experience through social media with others who also took part in the event,” says Jarmo Röksä, Project Manager for the online service.
The online service will be implemented with the Drupal open source publishing environment. Drupal has been selected by several Finnish companies, such as YLE, SuomiTV, Nelonen, Suomi24.fi and Uusi Suomi. International organisations relying on Drupal include NASA, Facebook and the United States White House.
