Viva la Diva! - An Evening with Karita Mattila
Opera singer Karita Mattila will be taking the stage at the Viva la Diva! concerts in her home town Turku. The leading soprano will be performing with Turku's own bass Matti Salminen as well as tenor Jorma Silvasti. The queen of the evening and the dashing gentlemen are accompanied by Turku Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Susanna Mälkki.
The concerts are arranged by Live Nation Finland as part of the programme for the European Capital of Culture year.
The Viva la Diva! concerts are one of the highlights of the Turku 2011 programme. In the velvety August night, audiences are treated to two concerts of the most cherished world-class gems from the world of opera and operetta. The Turku castle park serves as a stunning venue for the star-studded performers, housing a concert stand for an audience of 5,000 and comprehensive restaurant services.
Karita Mattila is one of the most globally esteemed and celebrated opera singers. A regular guest at the world's leading opera houses, she has had solo performances with the orchestras of New York, Los Angeles, London, Berlin and Milan's La Scala. Karita Mattila's most recent concert in Turku was in 2001.
Matti Salminen has received a number of awards both in Finland and internationally. Over the years, the king bass has appeared on the most prominent opera stages. During the season of 2010-11, he is performing with the Finnish National Opera.
Tenor Jorma Silvasti is currently making an important name for himself on European opera stages. He was awarded with a Grammy for the best opera recording in 2004. He is a well-known guest at the Finnish National Opera, where he will also be performing during 2010-11, alongside Paris and Vienna.
The Viva la Diva! concerts are part of the Linnan Juhlat programme produced by Live Nation Finland.
