Turku 2011 goes Modern
Turku Modern and Turku 2011 set up an afternoon club in the Main library’s inner courtyard. This club was a stage for a face off between Turku-based DJs and their counterparts from Stockholm.
The first edition of Turku Modern raised the roof in Turku in 2009. They returned for an encore during July 16-18, 2010. This year, the festival expanded to include a wider international participation. The top notch line-up had the hottest club sound ambassadors from Finland and abroad.
The inner courtyard of the Turku Main library was the stage for an oldschool block party event on Saturday July 17th. Turku DJs Pasmando, Kelloggs, Ionik, Niceice and George Spruce had three Swedish clubbers from the Stockholm Funk Delivery group for company. The group included Mika Snickars, Daniel Savio (alias DJ Dust) and Nathan Hamelberg who performed their innovative club beat together. The club was open for all ages and was free of charge for the general public. The event provided also information on the upcoming Capital of Culture year.
Club music: a part of Capital of Culture
With its 2009 debut, Turku Modern immediately took a permanent place in the festival calendar for the summer. This year, the festival will also visit international arenas. Turku Modern and Turku 2011 responsible for preparing the Capital of Culture year will come together to organise the Night Moves – Club Hopping with Turku 2011 series of club events to showcase modern Finnish club music.
“Showcasing brilliant Finnish club music producers, DJs and VJs internationally is the logical next step for ensuring the best possible international line-ups in Finland,” says Sampo Axelsson, Programme Manager for Turku Modern.
Shanghai - London - Stockholm
The tour kicked off at the Shanghai World Expo on May 27th. During the day, Turku put on display the best DJ and VJ skills Finland has to offer for the international audience.
On June 11th, during Helsinki Week, the Night Moves clubs were present at the Kuudes Linja and Siltanen venues in Helsinki. The current Turku cooperation will expand during the autumn, as the club tour continues abroad: London in September and Stockholm in October.
