Logomo Hall ready for the Eerik XIV opera

Traffic arrangements for the Logomo area to change with the new hall

On Tuesday 22 November, the new Logomo Hall will open with the premiere of the Eerik XIV opera. The opera was commissioned by the City of Turku from composer Mikko Heiniö and librettist Juha Siltanen in honour of the Capital of Culture year. The opening of the new hall will change the entrance to the Logomo performance venue.

The Eerik XIV opera is directed by Erik Söderblom, and the musical performance will be conducted by Leif Segerstam. The team of soloists will consist of top Finnish and Swedish opera singers. Music will be performed by Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, with Turku Conservatory Chamber Choir and Turku Opera Choir.

The opera is produced by the Turku Music Festival Foundation as part of the official Capital of Culture programme.

New routes to Logomo

Located at Logomo, the main stage for the Capital of Culture year, the new Logomo Hall was previously known as Hall B. During 2011, it was converted into a performance venue with a crowd capacity of 1,100–3,500.

From now on, the main entrance to the performance venue will be located on the railway side of the Logomo building. The restaurant can be accessed via the same entrance. The taxi stand will also be moved from Köydenpunojankatu to a new location next to the main entrance.

Buses may take passengers next to the main entrance and then move to the bus parking spaces on the other side of the building. The pedestrian route to the main entrance is past the Hall A exhibition entrance and on to the railway-side end of the building.

Parking spaces are available for slightly more than 200 cars between Logomo and Köydenpunojankatu and on the bus station side of the building. Additional parking spaces will be available for certain events, such as the Eerik XIV opera, at the end of Köydenpunojankatu next to Koulukatu, in the cargo station parking area, from which the audience will be transported to Logomo by bus.

For performances and concerts, people are recommended to arrive early and use public transport or come to Logomo on foot, via the pedestrian bridge next to the railway station for example.

In honour of the opening of the new hall, there will be free transport to the Eerik XIV opera performances from Turku Market Square, departing from the front of the Orthodox Church.
