Comic art contest for children and youth until Aug. 31

There's still time to hand in your work

The library's comic art program this spring triggered off the idea of a comic art contest for children and youth. Entries have been coming in to the library during summer even from abroad. The age of the contestants has varied from children to 18 years and over. Entries are welcome through entire August.

Entries are judged by a jury consisting of local comic art enthusiasts. There are nice prizes awaiting, such as comic books, artists' materials and even mystery prizes for a few contestants! An exhibition with the contestants' works will be put together in the youth zone Story during the autumn.

You can participate in the contest by handing in your work on a theme of your choosing by August 31st to a member of the library staff at the children's zone Saga or the youth zone Story. Remember to write

  • your name
  • age and
  • contact information on your entry

The contest is intended for young persons 20 years and under. No minimum age.

Comic art will be celebrated throughout the autumn

The popular encounters with comic artists this past spring will continue in the autumn once a month on Thursdays at 5-7 p.m. in the youth zone Story. Artist guests will be

  • Anna Stenman Sept. 1st
  • Petri Hiltunen Oct. 6th
  • Milla Paloniemi and Anni Nykänen Nov. 3rd and
  • Antti Hintsa Dec. 1st

There will also be an exhibition in September called Rymyä, raikua, ärräpäitä – Vuosisata suomalaista sarjakuvaa to celebrate 100 years of comic art.
