Support for Japan from Turku, in concert and online
The first Japan Aid fundraising concert organized by Finnish orchestral musicians will take place on Saturday the 9th of April. Live at Turku Concert Hall from 4pm local time, the concert will be conducted by Maestro Leif Segerstam.
The Finnish musicians have long had a deep relationship with the Japanese culture scene: the orchestras and conductors have toured the country widely and there are several Japanese musicians currently enriching the Finnish music scene. Even working in Finnish symphony orchestras, for example in the Turku Philharmonic orchestra there are two Japanese members. The musicians playing in the concerts organized in Turku the coming Saturday and in Helsinki later in the spring, are Finnish top musicians who have enlisted themselves gladly for the cause, donating their full fees to the victims of the Japan disaster. The whole profit of the concert will be donated to Japan via the Finnish Red Cross Japan Disaster Fund.
The program consists of Tragical Overture by Johannes Brahms and the First Symphony by Jean Sibelius
The Japan Aid concert is broadcast live on the Turku Philharmonic Orchestras’ website, at www.tfo.fi. During the concert the viewers can chat online via Facebook, for example sending their greetings to the musicians or sharing their emotions on the events in Japan. There will also be a Finnish Red Cross web banner onsite if the viewers wish to participate in helping the victims of the Japan disaster with their own donations.
Webcasting begins at 3.30 pm with live interviews with Maestro Leif Segerstam, oboist Takuya Takashima ja violinist Nobu Takizawa. Concert begins at 4 pm.
