Propose programme for Neighbourhood Weeks!

Does your neighbourhood need more colour and activities? Does your city district hold festivities or have special qualities that you want to share with others? Get onboard and discover the entire city of Turku during the Neighbourhood Weeks!

As part of the Capital of Culture year, Turku residents and visitors will have the chance to get to know the entire city of Turku with the Neighbourhood Weeks. Neighbourhood Weeks will be organised for various city districts consecutively for one week at a time during the Capital of Culture year.

The city districts in Turku are full of local distinctiveness and multiculturalism: neighbourhood festivals, events, fascinating locations and unique characteristics that are easily left unnoticed by other Turku residents and tourists.

People are invited to celebrate each neighbourhood during a special dedicated week for that district. The Neighbourhood Weeks allow the neighbourhood residents to take pride in their own area and meet their neighbours and other Turku residents.

The programme will largely depend on the active participation of the residents. An application period for the programme will be launched on 28 May 2010.

Propose programme for Neighbourhood Weeks!

The Turku 2011 Foundation invites the local neighbourhood actors to generate ideas and propose programme as part of the Neighbourhood Weeks; neighbourhood festivals, dance events, exhibitions and so on.

We seek programme that will highlight the local neighbourhood distinctiveness, identity, multiculturalism, everyday life or interaction. The programme will be presented during the consecutive weeks of the Neighbourhood Weeks in 2011.

The application is primarily aimed at third sector actors and organisations. The Turku 2011 Foundation provides financial support for the programme organisers.

The Neighbourhood Weeks will continue the tradition of the Turku 2011 Foundation’s Tule mukaan – Come along campaign that invites Turku residents to build the Capital of Culture year together.

The application period is open on 28 May – 8 August 2010.
