In August, it will be the turn of Portsa and Halinen.

Neighbourhood Weeks continues at Uittamo and Ispoinen.

Neighbourhood Weeks will offer dozens of events during the weeks of Uittamo and Ispoinen. The elaborate programme will be chock-full of stories on the histories of the neighbourhoods and feature several traditional events.

The week of Uittamo and Ispoinen 18–24 July 2011 will present the more sporty side of the neighbourhoods. The Uittamo dance pavilion will offer dance courses for every taste: for seniors, kids and adults. Different dance-themed evenings will be organised in both Finnish and English. The 80th anniversary of the dance pavilion will also be celebrated during the week. After the courses, the newly acquired skills can be put to the test on the dance floor with various dance bands providing excellent opportunities for it.

Besides dancing, the week’s emphasis will be on the beach and water. The natural world of the shoreline can be explored by walking and waterways can be plied in canoes. Saturday’s RantaILMIÖ (Beach PHENOMENON) will provide the opportunity to juggle, make human pyramids, try synchronised swimming and participate in a water war.

The Neighbourhood Weeks will be complemented with unique sightseeing tours to Uittamo, campaigns by travelling bus postmen and the Raising the Flag workshops.

The Neighbourhood Weeks are part of the Turku 2011 programme and present the neighbourhoods of Turku one by one through one-week programmes. The theme weeks emphasise the unique characteristics of each neighbourhood through locally generated programmes that are realised through the cooperation of various associations, societies, clubs and other local contributors.

In August, it will be the turn of Portsa and Halinen.
