Neighbourhood Weeks in August presents Halinen
During August Halinen Neighbourhood Weeks will provide fun activities for the entire family. The diverse programme includes historical stories and getting to know the local nature, for example. Various traditional events are also included.
The Halinen week, from 22 August to 28 August, invites visitors to get to know the area and its history through various excursions, which cater for children and adults alike. One excursion takes a look at old remains and relics in the area, the second studies the plant life of Halinen, the third dives into the fascinating world of bats and the final excursion hacks through intimate courtyards. The excursions are complemented with a paddling trip from Halistenkoski to the city centre. Storytelling Tuesday will present stories on everyday life in the Halinen area and Action Thursday allows visitors to check out crafts by local children at the local school. The closing event on Sunday will include circus performances, music and a traditional flea market. In addition, the Halinen Old Timer and Old Lady nominations will be made at the event. The week’s programme is produced by the Homestead Association Halinen-Räntämäki.
The Neighbourhood Weeks will be complemented with unique sightseeing tours to Portsa and Halinen, campaigns by travelling bus postmen and the Raising the Flag workshops.
The Neighbourhood Weeks are part of the Turku 2011 programme and present the neighbourhoods of Turku one by one through one-week programmes. The theme weeks emphasise the unique characteristics of each neighbourhood through locally generated programmes that are realised through the cooperation of various associations, societies, clubs and other local contributors.
In September, Martti will host the next Neighbourhood Week. In November, the final Neighbourhood Week location will be Varissuo.
