Moomin Shop took over the 2011 Corner Design Shop

Along with the Turku Capital of Culture information services, the 2011 Corner hosts a Design Shop with shopkeepers and design products that change every three months. Starting from October 2010, the Design Shop hosts a Moomin Shop until the end of the year 2010.

During the autumn 2010, the Corner will carry a selection of familiar and famous Moomin products for both children and adults. The selection will feature Moomin products by classic Finnish design companies, such as Iittala and Hackman, including plates, mugs and cutlery. The children will be able to enjoy a wide selection of Moomin World toys, such as the Moominhouse and Moomin binoculars. Over a hundred companies in Finland have a license to produce Moomin products. The Corner will feature an extensive selection of the available products.

- The Moomin World is a very important tourist attraction in Southwest Finland. Having the Moomins visit the Design Shop is wonderful cultural cooperation, says Marketing Manager Laura Aalto from the Turku 2011 Foundation.

The Moomin Shop events offer children story sessions, face painting and Christmas crafts. Sometimes, the Moomin World residents might pop in for a visit. Information on the Moomin visits and children’s events will be available online during the autumn 2010 at www.turku2011.fi.

Throughout the three-month period, children can submit drawings with a Moomin theme to the Design Shop. At the end of December 2010, a Moomin Jury will reward one lucky winner with a huge Moomin soft toy.

The 2011 Corner Design Shop is a project shop with sales periods of three months focusing on a particular theme. The shop concept highlights various aspects of Finnish design through the changing themes. The changing themes attract local customers back to the shop again and again. The themes introduced in 2010 were arts and crafts, ethical design, local Turku design companies and children. The 2011 themes include the latest fashion, for example.

The 2011 Corner and Design Shop can be found at Kristiinankatu 1, FI-20100 Turku. The Design Shop is open Mondays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
