
Kindling week – artistic activities for children
Kindling (Sytyke), a joint project by eleven Aladdin’s Lamp Art Centres and the City of Turku, bring together a wide range of artistic activities for children, youth and entire families throughout Finland. The activities culminate with an event week, (Nov. 15th–20th)
The event week gathers all art projects of the centres and their contributors to Turku.
Workshops during the main event (Nov. 20th) will allow the audience to participate in art workshops led by artists throughout Finland and visit the regional performances and exhibitions created as part of Kindling. Kindling includes circus, cinema, cartoons, photography, theatre, performances, dance, light art as well as visual and performing arts.
During the event week (Nov. 15th–18th), Finnish artists and their European counterparts mentor together artistic activities in schools and kindergartens. In addition, a seminar on youth culture aimed at professional audiences will take place Nov. 18th in Vimma art and activity centre for youth, Aurakatu 16, Turku
The nationwide Kindling project is the largest individual children’s cultural project included in the Turku Capital of Culture programme. The focus of the project is to highlight artwork produced by children and teenagers, to bring children’s art to the forefront and to inspire artistic expression and enthusiasm.
Aladdin’s Lamp – Kindling project is coordinated by the Children and Youth Culture Centre Pii Poo and 12 regional coordinators.
Taikalamppu – Aladdin’s Lamp is a Finnish network of regional Art Centres for Children and young people, maintained by the Ministry of Education and culture.
