European Capital of Culture street fashion is captured
Turku Looks takes a peek into the streets of Turku. Liisa Jokinen photographed city residents with unique personal styles and clothing - people who creatively mix the old with the new, the self-made with the bought and their own with the hand-me-downs.
For many people, simplicity and convenience are the top criteria for selecting their daily outfit. The crafty trend-setters in Turku are also inspired by design, Audrey Hepburn, sponsor T-shirts and funny hats, for example. The photographs were taken in Turku during three days in the autumn of 2009 and the spring of 2010.
Turku Looks is a spin-off project for the popular Hel Looks street fashion website launched in 2005 by Liisa Jokinen and Sampo Karjalainen. Turku Looks exhibition has been and is currently touring in several European countries, such as Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Russia.
