Circus greetings from Turku created a lot of joy in Brussels
Young circus artists from Turku Arts Academy brought a smile to EU-offficials faces in Brussels on 19-25. May 2011. For the first time a European Capital of culture performs such attacs inside the EU-institutions, where European culture on EU-level is framed.
What about 5 minutes acrobatics before a lunch? This question could have been posed in the Commission´s Berlaymont building on Thursday. The first circus attacks was made at noon and applied the idea of Euroepan Capital of Culture - culture approaches people directly.
In the Berlaymont a ceiling was not a hindrance when young circusartist reached the sky by their talents. 150 EU-officials stopped to follow this surprise performance. They gave big applause and were very impressed. All the performances went very well and audience was very alert, said Pyry Kääriä. We have done these kind of surprise attacks before, but never in these kind of places, he continued.
Every performance is of cource quite exciting, because we have to adapt them to different places and environments, told Toivo Kautto.
There were five young artists altogether taking part in this performances.
The first day went very well and was worth of all endaveours. The first Circus-day in Brussels showed that the idea was good and worth of putting into practise, said Krista Taipale, Head of Turku-Southwest Finland European Office. I desided to choose circus as an art form, because it is universal and does not have cultural or launguage barriers.
In the afternoon circus attacs took place in the Council, where the audience was member state´s delegations attending Ministerial meeting and officials in the Council.
Turku-Southwest Finland Euroepan office is responsible in organising circus week in Brussels.
