Artist as Neighbour

Knock knock! Who’s there? Neighbour. Neighbour who? Artist, that’s who!

Artist as Neighbour

Get to know the attractions from various neighbourhoods, generate ideas on suburban souvenirs, dance the district alive or go on a picnic together with an artist!

The Artist as Neighbour project, coordinated by the Cultural Services Office for the City of Turku will attract city residents to become inspired by their own surroundings and to bring their neighbourhoods alive through art. Multidisciplinary neighbourhood artists will work in Turku neighbourhoods alone and together with the residents to create artworks that make the ordinary surroundings delightful and livelier.

The artists in the project include Susanna Peijari with her suburban memory game, Jouna Karsi with miniature statues in stores, Nina Renvall and Tiina Vainio with Raunistula district theme artwork that combines art and dance, as well as a group of artists from Turku and Cologne that will organise the Dialogue Cities urban art event.

In addition, the project will organise various local activities and events, such as art janitoring, neighbourhood workshops and suburban festivities together with various organisations, such as the Turku City Libraries and the immigrant and multicultural services by the Cultural Services Office for the City of Turku.

The residents will be able to participate in the events from the spring of 2010 to the end of 2011.
