The Turun Sarjakuvakerho comic book club will organise a series of comic surprises which will take over the Turku streets. Look out for alternative traffic signs around Turku that make commentary on the city and provide cheery guidance for the city’s visitors. The audience will also be able to follow continuous comic stories through series of large-scale comic strips, published both in the urban space and online.
The participating comic artists will include such top Finnish acts as Pertti Jarla (the Fingerpori comic), Milla Paloniemi (Kiroileva Siili), Ilkka Heilä (B.Virtanen), Jyrki Nissinen (Auttajahai), Mika Lietzen, Antti Hopia & Nina Laakko (Kirjaston Kissat), Tiitu Takalo, Mari Ahokoivu and Hanna Koljonen.
We will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Finnish Comics in 2011. In Turku, the anniversary will be marked with the 6th annual Necrocomicon comic event. An anniversary anthology will be compiled of Turku-based comics.
At the end of the summer, the traffic sign paintings will be sold and a part of the revenues will be given to charity. The Turun Sarjakuvakerho comic club will run the event.
