REGARDING PLACE

REGARDING PLACE

Photographic Centre Peri’s fall calendar begins with a group exhibition Regarding Place in which eight visual artists currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, examine the notion of place using still photography, single-channel video, and silent film. From otherworldly aerial landscapes (Hernsberger) to institutional zoos (Roe), from personal domestic spaces (Motta, Mattern) to the remote reaches of Canada (Newhall), and from the phenomenal experience of the American West (Estep) to the historical relationship with memory and memorial (Hoolihan, Henkel), these artists reveal a complex range of experiences and perceptions regarding place. How do we embody, occupy, explore, and understand the spaces we construct?

The exhibition has been co-ordinated by Minna Rainio, The Government of Finland and Nancy and David Speer Chair and Visiting Professor in Photography at the University of Minnesota. The exhibition has been funded with the generous support by Government of Finland/David and Nancy Speer Professorship in Finnish Studies, University of Minnesota.
