Deganit Shemy, Israeli choreographer / artist-teacher has a two week creative teaching residency with the Department of Dance 3rd year students.  Shemy's teaching residency at the Arts Academy, Turku University of Applied Sciences is  supported by Turku European Capital of Culture 2011 and the Embassy of Israel in Finland and Estonia.

Deganit and her New York based dance company, have recently completed their second artistic performance residency at the Baryshnikov Arts Center ( a leading center of contemporary performance and visual arts in New York City), Mikhail Baryshnikov artistic director.  Her choreography has received outstanding reviews from dance critics and writers in the USA.  She has been an invited guest artist to numerous university dance departments.

In Turku she is creating a site-specific work with the dance students.  Musician Sami Pertulla is creating an original sound score for this work.

With the Department of Dance students, Deganit has been explorinng movement in which the viewer / audience can be taken into an alternative visual reality based on the architectural aspects of the performance location.

The Department of Dance students will share the work process in a final showing on November 10th at 15:00:  the audience is invited to the Muusa cafeteria space for this site-specific experience.
