Fresh and original observations, experiences and comments on the symbiosis of the city, and the river that runs through it, will form the core of the International environmental art event Flux Aura. This is all about artistic experiences within the urban environment. Several artworks – sculptures, performances and floating installations – appear on the River Aura, its river banks and the surrounding areas.
The works are thematically linked to the River Aura, to flowing water, the city and the life and nature that surrounds the river. Flux Aura includes artistic nesting boxes for butterflies, visual acupuncture for the nature, blocks of stone that reflect the sun and a huge daisy. Giant eiders swimming in the river will sound out their opinion on the state of the Baltic Sea, creatures of light will make their home under the Turku Cathedral bridge and Motive Ships will contemplate the methods of seafaring. An artistic garden of butterflies will be created in the city. Common public buses and street pavement stones will also offer surprising experiences.
Artists from Southwest Finland and abroad were selected after a round of applications and havw cooperated to create the art works. Some of the artworks are temporary, others are more permanent, all are there to experience 20.6.-31.8.2011.
