Electroacustic Aquatrio in Koroinen

The Aquatrio; Marianne Decoster-Taivalkoski, Alejandro Montes de Oca & Alejandro Olarte will perform an outdoor concert of electroacoustic music playing with underwater sounds from the Turku area and water
poetry from Aura River and Baltic Sea. The concert starts just before the sunset, Saturday August the 20th, 2011 from 6 to 7 pm.

The concert will take place at the Sonic Seascape Terrace of Koroinen, by the site-speficic artwork designed by Marianne Decoster-Taivalkoski & Hanna Haaslahti that is located in the idyllic fluvial scenery of the Aurajoki, near Halistenkoski.

The work studies the underwater world of Aura River and the sea by Ruissalo:

What is the correlation between underwater soundscape and the way the sea looks on the surface? Sound can travel many kilometres under water, so it´s noisy down there though on a sunny day the surface of the sea appears as a calm and peaceful entity. When we talk about the sea, we tend to refer only what´s happening on the surface level. But underneath is a secret world, which we know very little of. The project investigates that world with the aid of sound, which is the best communication method in water.

Admission free.

The concert is co-organised by Capsula and "Koroinen Kyläjuhla", in collaboration with Centre for music&technology / Sibelius Academy and Lumo Centre. The Sonic Seascape Terrace is part of Curated Expedition to the Baltic Sea -exposition, and forms part of Turku2011 programme.
