Balancing is a cross cultural art work, in which five dancers climb onto the backs of the giant eiders floating in the River Aura. serves as a platform for a dance performance.
The unpredictability of the currents and water level of the river creates an interesting platform for a flock of eiders and the human figures balancing on them. The flock brings a message from the Baltic Sea. The art work acquires a cross cultural character in June, as five dancers perform on the backs of the birds. The art work contemplates the relationship between human beings and nature, and it is in constant motion, streaming, turning and changing like life itself.
In leading roles: Eider (Somateria mollissima) and Man (Homo sapiens). Both species are found in large numbers around the Baltic Sea.
In supporting roles: Dancers Vilma Berggren, Salla Kärkkäinen, Ursula Puntari, Annastiina Saastamoinen and Sinikka Strömmer. Choreography Satu Tuittila, sound Matti Faler.
