As a part of the festival two curators’ seminars will be taking place – the first one on Thursday May 26th in Ateneum Hall in Helsinki, and the second on Sunday May 29th in the Studio of Turku City Library.
The festival curators Christopher Hewitt (UK/Germany), Kimmo Modig (Finland) and Lois Keidan (UK) representing the Live Art Development Agency, and Per Platou (Norway), the director of PNEK - Production Network for Electronic Art and artist Andrés Galeano (Spain/Germany) will be taking part to the Turku seminar. Tuomas Laitinen from the Presentaatio – Performance and Live Art Information Center Finland will be the moderator of the seminar.
The topic of the curators' seminar in Turku is “Remembering the Art, Disappearing Art and Documentation”. The programme and its realisation of the Performanssi 2011 festival will be taken under discussion. Also the issue of how the works of art will live on after the festival will be reflected upon. What kinds of documentations were made of the performances? Is it possible to experience a performance piece through a document? In what ways is the act discussible afterwards? Is the immediate experience the only thing that’s of any relevance? In other words, does the performance piece only exist on the moment of appearance? Has the generalisation of documentation changed our perspectives on the performance moment’s authenticity?
As a part of the seminar program Leena Kela, a regional artist of performance art at the Arts Council of South-West Finland will publish the Performance Art Bank database that presents current Finnish performance and Live Art at www.performanssi.com, and in a published catalogue. The database is maintained by Artists' Association MUU and the Arts Council of South-West Finland.
Free entry.
The event is organised in collaboration with Presentaatio – Performance and Live Art Information Center Finland.
