Abduction of Europa

In a joint effort, the Engineering Theatre AKHE (RUS), the puppetry students at the Arts Academy at Turku University of Applied Sciences and the TIP-Connection Association will produce a rare performance. Set in an outdoor swimming pool in Turku, The performance takes place above and under the water, creating an unbelievably mystical atmosphere for evenings in October.

In the story, the Greek gods Zeus and Europa aspire to reach each other across the ocean that separates them. Abduction of Europa is contemporary theatre that combines visual effects, circus and various stage elements within the frame of a mythological story. Special costume design and the magical water environment will make the performance appear like a futuristic fashion show.

The AKHE group specialises in the use of various mechanical props and apparatuses as part of the performance. Abduction of Europa will feature 25 performers, puppeteers, circus artists and athletes. Various puppets and illuminating effects on and above the water surface will lead the audiences on a surreal trip that will not be easily forgotten.

The performance is being produced by the Arts Academy at Turku University of Applied Sciences and Anna Ivanova.
