The merry people of Colourscape
I've been asked to write an introduction to Colourscape and its Finnish staff members. So far I've been struggling with this task as I've felt that I don't know the others that well. To be honest I still feel that I don't know the people that well, but I'll try my best to give short descriptions of the Finnish crew. I'll do this in alphabetical order so that no one gets any preferential treatment.
Elina
Elina is a history student at the University of Turku. She is originally from way up north, but has been living in Turku for some years now due to her studies. As a member of the Colourscape staff Elina excels working in the front of house, that is selling tickets to people, handling stacks of money, juggling with coins, talking to people and keeping people in the queue happy. Furthermore, she naturally participates in the other activities as well, that is whenever she is not involved dealing with the tickets.
Inkeri
Inkeri is a student of contemporary history at the University of Turku. During her studies she has, however, spent a considerable amount of time abroad and could easily fool you for a Spanish major. She has made her way to Turku from Salo. At work Inkeri is a real spark plug as she seems to be bustling with energy and upbeat attitude. Naturally everyone has their low points at times, but whenever Inkeri has one, she seems to have a knack for bouncing back quite rapidly. It must be that South-American cultural influence that keeps her going. Similarly to Elina, Inkeri is very important for the front of the house in Colourscape. You can trust her to do her best at our humble ticket office. Our Spanish speaking visitors seem to be very happy with her role in Colourscape.
Kristin
Unlike most of the Finnish staff members in Colourscape, Kristin studies in Åbo Akademi. She studies comparative literature. Kristin's background provides the Colourscape team a valuable asset. The Finnish staff is able to communicate in Swedish as well, but Kristin is on a whole different level. She doesn't run out of words or have trouble figuring out what to reply to Swedish speaking visitors. Initially Kristin seemed to be a bit insecure about using Finnish, but in my opinion her Finnish is far superior to our Swedish. Kristin seems to excel at the workshops and dealing with the younger crowd.
Susanna
Susanna studies Finnish literature at the University of Turku. While not as specialized in a single task as Elina is, Susanna, or Suzie as the British staff members call her, seems to be able to handle all the various tasks in Colourscape. Sometimes Suzie seems to be a bit insecure about doing something and may ask someone to aid her. In my opinion she does not really need the help, just a little boost of confidence at times. She is more than capable to handle whatever needs to be done on her own. In addition, Susanna is probably the best at keeping order inside the structure.
Timo
I study English at the University of Turku. At work I consider myself a bit of a grunt, someone who likes to get involved in the more physical side of the work, albeit I would not describe myself as a particularly strong person. I also enjoy talking with people in front of the house, giving out capes and addressing the public who queue up to buy the tickets. I enjoy if people enjoy their visit in Colourscape. I also have a knack for photography, but it is not an important part of our line of work. The others could probably give a better description of me as a person and as a co-worker.
Valtteri
Valtteri, or Val, has studied cultural management and recently graduated. At work he is another Jack of all trades alongside Susanna and me. Valtteri can do all of the task that we do each day at work, be it the physical work, selling tickets, talking with people, doing workshops or making coffee. During the weekends Valtteri seems to have a busy schedule. They say he attends weddings, but I believe he actually works as a wedding singer on the side.
What we all have in common seems to be our educational background and being at least somewhat international. We have had our fair share of experiences both home and abroad. Our team has strong language skills as we cover Finnish, Swedish, English and Spanish quite fluently. I'm not sure what other languages we understand as a group as well, but I can speak and understand some German and Dutch as well.
