Medieval hippies - strange huh?

Medieval hippies - strange huh?

Last week Turku held the yearly Medieval Market. It is an event full of merchants selling their handicrafts, artisans showing their skills and a large number of role-players showing a glimpse of what life in the Middle-Ages was like.

I blame the government to be!

I blame the government to be!

A small group of Hair hippies were supposed to sing to President Tarja Halonen today. And I had been asked to talk to her for some minutes about my impressions of the whole project and the effect it had on me and the whole cast. But then the chairman of our parliament decided to present a paper needed to form a new government at just the same moment. As if that could be more important!

We did it! Hair is here.

We did it! Hair is here.

Our opening night is behind us and what a night it was. A few hours before the the show, I was hit by such a violent attack of stage fright that for a moment I was worried. To counter attack, I took all my stuff and walked to Logomo. I was the only one there had the place to myself. I sat and stared at the stage for ten minutes and then walked onto it. Looking up at the empty seats, I started dancing. And after a few minutes I was at peace. The stage was my friend.

Fire in the hole!

Fire in the hole!

Wow!

Yesterday we had our last rehearsal before today’s opening night. What a day. The emotional level in the dressing room before we started was so intense, that I felt I could smell it. Even over all the makeup and hairspray. The last minute hugs, looks of encouragement and thumbs ups and then onto the stage.

We went through the show well, in spite of a good list of “things to improve”. The energy was good and the feeling on stage as well. There were moments, when I was not acting but rather living the role I play. That is good, I suppose?

HAIR ahoy !!!

Early Wednesday morning and a group of soon-to-be musical stars gathered at the Silja ferry terminal and boarded the “Culture Ferry”. This ship was being loaded with Turku 2011 organisers, culture producers, politicians, the media and of course us.
