Dim Creatures in the inner court of the Turku Main Library!

The Dim Creatures is a surprising and attention-captivating animation about visions of night and dreams.

The work of art is cheerful, sympathetic and mischievous and it plays with the observations of the spectator by combining existing surfaces and the animations projected onto them.

The animation is presented 16 Nov - 7 Dec Mon-Thu and Sun 4 pm-11 pm and Fri-Sat 4pm-4am in the inner court of the Turku Main Library.

Animation directors are Sara Wahl, Niina Suominen, Tommi Juutilainen, Samppa Kukkonen, Lauri Järvenpää, Lotta Rapeli, Chrzu, Reetta Neittaanmäki, Taru Varpumaa, Simo Ruotsalainen and Antti Laakso.

Summer has been sunny and hot so far in Turku! We have been rocking not only in Turku main library's yard but also in Ruisrock. All over the beautiful summer city has been visual surprises from Aura riverside to Wiklund's corner's tiny gallery placed on wall. Culture is out loud indeed!

Reading around the world

Reading around the world – children’s summer reading campaign has been launched in the main library and the branch libraries in Turku, as well as the libraries in Kaarina, Kustavi, Laitila, Lieto, Mynämäki, Nousiainen, Paimio, Raisio, Rusko, Uusikaupunki and Vehmaa.

As a part of the campaign, the libraries have jointly produced bookpasses, stickers and bookmarks for the children. The children may get their bookpasses and bookmarks from the library, but in some municipalities they are dealt out in schools.

The child can write the title(s) of the book(s) he/she has read in the bookpass, and get a sticker for each book from the library. On top of that, the libraries may have some related activities of their own. For instance, in the main library, a book stack is being heaped up.

Turku 2011 goes Modern

Turku Modern and Turku 2011 set up an afternoon club in the Main library’s inner courtyard. This club was a stage for a face off between Turku-based DJs and their counterparts from Stockholm.

The first edition of Turku Modern raised the roof in Turku in 2009. They returned for an encore during July 16-18, 2010. This year, the festival expanded to include a wider international participation. The top notch line-up had the hottest club sound ambassadors from Finland and abroad.
