The best Enterprise Building or Public Garden

People have voted for the best Enterprise Building of Public Garden. Online voting was part of Turku 2011 Garden Competition project.

Voting ended 30 th September. The results will be published in the end of the year.

The largest ever garden competition in Turku will encourage city residents to give their gardens a make-over. District juries appointed by local property associations and city district societies will provide support and guidance for the garden improvements.

The juries will select the best gardens from their own districts in categories including Private Houses, Terraced Houses, Holiday Houses, Apartment Buildings, Enterprise Buildings and Public Gardens.

Buddleja, which is also called the Butterfly Bush, is one of the best plants to attract butterflies. It blooms in late summer in the Fluttering Garden.

The Fluttering Garden

Imaginatively shaped flower beds attract butterflies in the courtyard of the University of Turku in summer 2011.

Colorful flowers that attract butterflies grow in the Fluttering garden. The art work has been inspired by Pehr Kalm, who worked in Turku in the 18th century. Flowers and butterflies are tiny color factories that need each other to survive. The flower species are chosen for their historical connection to Finnish botanists, and their attractiveness to butterflies.

The Fluttering garden is at its best in midsummer, when the flowers reach full bloom.
