The best Enterprise Building or Public Garden

People have voted for the best Enterprise Building of Public Garden. Online voting was part of Turku 2011 Garden Competition project.

Voting ended 30 th September. The results will be published in the end of the year.

The largest ever garden competition in Turku will encourage city residents to give their gardens a make-over. District juries appointed by local property associations and city district societies will provide support and guidance for the garden improvements.

The juries will select the best gardens from their own districts in categories including Private Houses, Terraced Houses, Holiday Houses, Apartment Buildings, Enterprise Buildings and Public Gardens.

Flux Aura 2011 photography competition

Internetional Flux Aura 2011 evironmental art event's artworks will be created on the River Aura, its river banks and the surrounding areas. Take a photo of one of them and participate in the competition.

The picture can be from any Flux Aura work and you have to take it your self, no studio pictures allowed. You must mention the name of the photographer and ask a permission from the people in the picture. Flux Aura won't use the pictures without the photographers permission.

Mia Hamari got the 1st prize of the Wäinö! Sculpture Exhibition 2011 –competition

Part of the Wäinö! Sculpture Exhibition 2011 was a competition. Winner received own solo exhibition in Turku in the year 2014.

The Wäinö! exhibition presents the talents and visions of both established and novice sculptors, highlighting the skills and narrative talent of a new generation of sculptors.

- Sculpture requires maturity and our quest artists have it, says the curator of the exhibition Jan Kenneth Weckman.

Winners of the photography competion with the theme Baltic Sea are declared

The Turku 2011 Foundation launched a photography competition where three winners will be awarded with an opportunity to sail on the barque Thalassa from Turku to Gdynia between 27 August and 4 September as part of The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta

The theme for the photography competition was the Baltic Sea: what does the Baltic Sea mean to you and how do you protect it? There were 48 photographs uploaded the turku2011.fi website and they could be voted until May 15th.

Gabriela Austeda had all three photos among the most voted. Also Barry Feldon who came third had his two photos among the most popular pictures. The photographs submitted will not be used for marketing purposes.

Attend a photography competition with Baltic Sea theme by 27 April

In late August, the Turku Capital of Culture year programme will celebrate The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta. The Turku 2011 Foundation launches a photography competition where three winners will be awarded with an opportunity to sail on the barque Thalassa from Turku to Gdynia between 27 August and 4 September.

The theme for the photography competition is the Baltic Sea: what does the Baltic Sea mean to you and how do you protect it? Register at the Turku 2011 website and upload your photo entry for public voting. All registered visitors can vote for the competition entries submitted.

Polyglot video contest winners announced

Yesterday our special jury met to take on the challenge of selecting all 18 winners of the Polyglot Video Contest.

The deliberations resulted in an equal number of selections from the documentary and fiction categories, and winners aged between 19 and 32 from 12 different countries. Here is the full list - congratulations to the young talents who are invited to participate in the Cine-Boat workshop.

NISI MASA received 87 valid submissions from 28 different European countries: Video Portraits (documentary) on My multilingualism and Video Poems (fiction) on The language I dream in. Due technical problems the online voting was cancelled and Polyglot jury will select all 18 winners.

Innovative results of Live 2011 Grand Prix announced

The Live Grand Prix media competition attracted contestants ranging from top experts to rising talents from all over the world to participate in eight competition categories. The most reputable participant is Casey Pugh's Star Wars: Uncut. A total of 105,600 euros will be awarded to winners and for creating the works selected by international juries.

The Turku Capital of Culture year offering includes a wealth of digital culture. With the Live 2011 Grand Prix media art competition, Turku, the European Capital of Culture for 2011, challenged top artists and new emerging talents from all over the world to deliver media art and novel media applications.
